Meet the Artisans at the 2024 Ceramics Fair

The Ceramics Fair is back in Florence for its 25th edition; on October 5 and 6, Santa Croce square will be filled with tables offering every type of ceramic object from jewellery to crockery to home accessories. There will be a total of 95 artists on display from across Europe, with a number of events for everyone to enjoy. There will be opportunities for visitors to shop as well as clay workshops for children. There is free admission to the fair and the opening hours are from 10 am to 7 pm.
La Fiera Internazionale della Ceramica was founded by Sandra Pelli, Stefano Giusti and Fabrizio Tranquillo with the Association La Fierucola in 2000. One of the unique features of this event is that visitors have the opportunity to meet the artists who make the pieces on show. The artisans will be at their own stands in the exhibition-market so the public can learn about the craftsmanship of the items from those who make them. The pieces will include mugs, bowls, plates, vases and more, each made with different techniques. The materials include majolica, stoneware, porcelain and raku ceramics. Visitors will also be able to observe the process first hand at the pottery wheel.
Activities for children will include workshops on Saturday afternoon from 4 till 6 pm and Sunday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 4 till 6 pm. Little ones will be offered a free, hands-on experience working with clay and learn about the basics of ceramics. No need to pre-book, just bring your apron!
On Saturday at 7.30 pm there will be a demonstration at the kiln that will heat a large sculpture created by students of the Florence high school Alberti. The project is a great example of how ceramics can be used to blend education and artistry, as well as to inspire young people in the world of work. Also at the fair will be an organic market, with fresh produce, cosmetics, textiles and desserts.
