San Lorenzo Market Stalls: New Closing Day

Finding a lively, well stocked market in Florence is a wonderful experience. There are a variety of things to try, such as: a bold coffee, curated and cooked meats, various cheeses, vegetables and fruits. The San Lorenzo Market has all of this. Two floors and a maze of stands outside to be exact. The venue brings together many common Tuscan goods into one vibrant setting. Goods such as leather, scarves, souvenirs and even shoes are sold in the outside market, with stalls set up along via dell’Ariento, via Sant’Antonino, via Panicale and piazza del Mercato Centrale.
Walking through the market stalls keeps a busy environment all around. Resulting in crowded streets for not only the market stall owners, but for nearby residents as well.
Formerly open 24/7, the outdoor stalls will be closed every Monday in February, March, August and November 2025; on the first and third Monday from April through October in addition to the first Monday of December.
A new ordinance was recently signed by Mayor Sara Funaro to instate this change of hours, acknowledging the need for a weekly day of rest, while still being a fixed stop for tourists at the market to shop for souvenirs. (Abby Zappone)
