The Music of Beethoven, Mendelssohn & Schumann at ORT’s Inaugural Concert

The ‘Orchestra della Toscana’ will perform a program comprising works of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Schumann in the Teatro Verdi to inaugurate their 44th concert season on October 30, at 9 pm.
The talented principal conductor Diego Ceretta has created a program that centres around two foundational nineteenth century composer’s pieces: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony. Beethoven’s Egmont Overture was inspired by Gothe’s drama of the same name, while Mendelssohn’s piece was a pioneering work for its time. Robert Schumann’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra will also be included, a piece that has a fascinating story behind it; though written in 1853 it was not published or performed until 1937 due to its unpopularity with his wife, an esteemed pianist, and his friend Joseph Joachim the distinguished violinist.
Frank Peter Zimmermann, the violinist who learnt to play at only five years old and gave his first concert at ten, will perform Schumann’s piece. He boasts an impressive array of collaborations, with the most important orchestras across the globe. The concert will be repeated in Pisa the following day, at Teatro Verdi, to commence the season “I concerti della Normale”.
Tickets cost from €5.00 to €24.00 and can be purchased at the Teatro Verdi Box Office (tel.055/212320); also at the Ticketone Circuit points of sale and online at www.ticketone.it.
